Home extension foundations in East York and Toronto
Overview

Adding onto your home means building a new foundation right next to an existing one. That takes careful work. The new footings have to sit at the right depth, the walls need to tie in properly, and the whole thing has to work as one structure when it is done.

We handle extension foundations for rear additions, side additions, and bump-outs across the GTA. Our crews understand the tie-in work that connects new to old, making sure there are no structural gaps, no waterproofing weak points, and no issues for the framing crew that follows us.

Whether you are adding a family room, expanding a kitchen, or building a second-storey addition that needs new footings below, we will review your plans and give you an honest assessment of what is involved.

Our Process

How we get it done.

Every project follows a proven process. No shortcuts, no improvisation, just disciplined execution from start to finish.

1

Footing Day

Once surveyors place the pins, we form new footings at the same depth as the existing foundation. Rebar is placed and concrete is poured the same day, with tie-in details handled precisely.

2

Wall Assembly

Forming cages are positioned and assembled over 3 to 4 working days. Walls are formed to match the height and thickness specified in the drawings, connecting new to existing with care.

3

Wall Pour

All walls are poured in a single day. Placement and vibration are coordinated to ensure full consolidation without compromising the existing structure.

4

Strip & Load

Forms are peeled and cages loaded out. The site is left clean with a proper transition point for the framing crew that follows.

5

Waterproofing

Our waterproofing crew sprays tar and wraps membrane on all below-grade walls, including the connection point between old and new. The foundation is sealed and ready for backfill.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions.

How do you tie the new foundation into the existing one?

It depends on the engineer's specification. Common methods include dowelling into the existing foundation with epoxy-set rebar, using mechanical connectors, or forming a cold joint with proper keyway detail. We follow whatever the structural drawings call for.

How do you protect the existing foundation during the work?

We monitor the existing wall throughout the forming process. If there are any concerns about the existing foundation's condition, we flag them before proceeding. Our forming work is designed to tie in without compromising what is already there.

Can you match the existing foundation depth?

Yes. The new footings must sit at the same depth as the existing ones to prevent differential settlement. We verify this before forming begins and again during the footing pour.

How long does an extension foundation take?

Most extension foundations take 1 to 2 weeks depending on the size and complexity of the tie-in. A simple rear addition is closer to 1 week. A larger L-shaped or wrap-around addition may take the full 2 weeks.
